What’s in My Camera Bag
Hi, I’m Cheyenne. I’m a New Mexico based photographer who specializes in creating custom portraits for families, children, and pets, as well as in capturing weddings and events in the Albuquerque Metro Area, including Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and Belen.
I am often asked about what gear I use to create my portraits, so I thought I’d give a tour of my camera bag and favorite gear here on the blog for anyone who is curious!
1. Cameras
I currently have two cameras that I use: a Canon 5d Mark IV and a Canon 5d Mark II
For portrait sessions, you’ll usually see my using only the 5d Mark IV, but for weddings I use both.
I prefer the Mark IV for most things because it has dual memory slots, which ensures files will be backed up to two separate memory cards in case one card corrupts and loses the images, while the Mark II serves as a backup.
2. Lenses
The two lenses I love using most are the Canon 135mm f2 and the Tamron 24-70 f2.8. The 24-70 gives me a wide range of focal lengths to work with so I can create a wide variety of looks, and the 135mm creates creamy, soft bokeh and perfect compression for beautifully sharp portraits.
3. Lights
Though natural light photography is all the rage right now, I like to use flash for most of my photos. In my opinion, it creates a more clean and crisp look, and it fills in shadows, saving me countless hours in post-processing. I am presently using a Godox ad200 pocket strobe and pro trigger, which is great because it is battery powered (so no cords to trip over), and compact enough to carry in any camera bag. On occasion I will also use reflectors, speed lights on my camera, or LED panels, depending on the job and the available light.
4. All-Terrain Wagon
For on-location work, I cart around a little fold-up all terrain wagon loaded with light stands, reflectors, light modifiers, props, and anything else I might need, including bottles of water, bug spray, and snacks. My little wagon has saved me so many times, and to me is a MUST- HAVE item when working on location.
If you and your family love having fun and showing up as your uniquely awesome selves, then I think we are going to get along great. I can help you create memorable portraits that stand out from the rest, and that you will treasure as the days turn to years and the years turn to decades.
