Fall in a Small Town
When I moved from Albuquerque to Belen 5 years ago, I was ready for a change of pace. The city was exhausting, with all the hustle and bustle and noise. I wanted to raise my children in a place where neighbors still talked to each other and everyone still knows each other’s names; a place where the community watches each other’s kids grow up and roots for them at every step of the way.
I have found all of that and more in Belen. We are a community of kind, caring people with a zest for life. We pour everything we have into our vibrant community and into making it a better place for all.
That zest for life was especially apparent in the recent Scarecrow Festival in the recently revitalized Belen Arts District. The smell of crisp fall leaves hung in the air. All along Becker Avenue, businesses opened their doors to trick or treaters. Craft booths were set up in the middle of the streets, with fun fall games and prizes for all to enjoy. The sound of music and a brilliant display of folklorico dancers captured the attention of passers by, and a local theater group performed monologues of historical figures from the town’s founding as children sat, transfixed.
After a rough couple of years, filled with loss, hardship, and division, it was so wonderful to see that in the end, our community is stronger than ever. Even though we may have different beliefs and opinions, at the end of the day, we are neighbors and friends. Thank you, to all who made this event possible. It was a beautiful display of community, that we very much needed.
If you and your family love having fun and showing up as your uniquely awesome selves, then I think we are going to get along great. I can help you create memorable portraits that stand out from the rest, and that you will treasure as the days turn to years and the years turn to decades.
