What if my dog isn’t trained to pose for photos?

As New Mexico’s premier mobile pet studio, I get asked about training a lot. Many people assume that the dogs I photograph must be highly trained, perfectly behaved angels who have experience posing for the camera. What they don’t know is, that couldn’t be further from the truth!

The dogs I photograph are normal family dogs with no special training. Basic commands like, sit, or stay can be helpful, but they’re not absolutely necessary. The truth is, I use a blend of experience, patience, and photoshop magic to get great results for every dog, regardless of training level.

During a session, I like to go at the dog’s pace, paying close attention to their body language and energy. If a dog is unsure about me or the camera, I take time to let them check things out and get comfortable. If a dog is over-excited and energetic, I bring my energy level down to allow them to match it.
While photographing, I use a combination or sounds and treats to get their attention, and we take frequent breaks to avoid stress. I often have the owner hold the dog on a leash or remain close by to help reassure the dog and keep them happy.
In the end, my goal is to get adorable photos of your dog that show their true character, but I want it to be a positive, rewarding experience for the dog.
