Capturing the Magic of Childhood

As a mama of 3 amazing kids, ages 16, 9, and 5, I know firsthand just how magical childhood is. I also know how quickly it passes by.

As the old adage goes,

The days are long, but the years are short.

They truly are only little ONCE.

It seems like just yesterday I was meeting my step son for the first time, or bringing my brand new babies home from the hospital. Now my youngest is 5 and entering into the “big kid” years. I find myself wanting to savor every last drop of “littleness” and preserve it so I can revisit it again and again.

I use this feeling to draw from when I am creating children’s portraits. I focus on who that little person is in that moment, and try to capture how they interact with the world around them. I do this knowing that someday, not too far from now, these photographs will be priceless treasures; treasured mementos of some of the happiest, most magical times in a parent’s life.
